Amnesty International Releases New Report

Nearly four decades after Stonewall, and despite significant progress in the recognition of the human rights of LGBT people, the targeting of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) individuals for police abuse and misconduct remains a persistent and widespread problem in the US.

A new report by Amnesty International, Stonewalled: Police abuse and misconduct against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in the US, documents serious patterns of police abuse, including incidents amounting to torture and ill-treatment.

 

DC OUTfront Announces New Event, to Focus on Issues from New Report

The DC OUTfront Action Team is planning to hold an event hgihlighting the issues raised in AI's new report, Stonewalled: Police abuse and misconduct against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in the US, in late February of 2006. DC OUTfront is currently soliciting Co-Sponsoring Organizations to help provide exposure, as well as donations and volunteers. Take Action to End Homophobic Violence in Mexico

On 21 June Health worker Octavio Acuna was found bleeding to death from multiple stab wounds in the condom shop (condoneria) he ran in Queretaro. Nothing was reportedly stolen from the shop, indicating that the motive was not robbery.
