Meeting Minutes
Monday, May 2 2005
7:30 pm

Members Present: Randy Marks, Andre Cutair, Tyrone Hanley, Tony Lee, Nick DiBlasio, Mike Galaviz

Discussed website issues regarding donating online. The process to donate online using PayPal is more difficult than we thought. Any ideas?

Stonewall anniversary planning event: AI should be releasing a report on police brutality that coincides with the Stonewall anniversary but we will check with the national office to be sure this is the case. 27/28 June is the anniversary of Stonewall. The group came up with the idea to plan an event around the Permanent Partners and Immigration Act (PPI) and outreach to other local community groups to create a community event. Andre volunteered to come up with a script so we can talk about the Act. Some members will present the idea to local groups to determine interest in the idea. We need to plan ASAP for media/press work. The event could be at the Homeland Security offices. We also need to arrange for a maximum of four expert speakers and persons who can tell personal experiences of being affected by this issue. Members should have results of their conversations with local groups by 6 May.

Members were urged to get a dcoutfront.org email address because it can help our networking and recruiting efforts.

Andre will begin helping with the website.

Tony and Ariel Herrera met with the Jamaican Ambassador a week ago Thursday. He was not responsive but did say he would take specific incidents to his superiors.

Tony met with some Columbian activists and will share the details at the next meeting.

Tyrone will remain the New Member Coordinator but not the Outreach Coordinator.

Youth Pride is postponed until 4 June. (Capital Pride is 12 June, Black Pride is 29 May)

We need to come up with bullets for upcoming events which can also be posted to the website in the resource section. They can include:
- speaking about Jamaica and Columbia
- speaking about DC Outfront in relation to AI and AIUSA
- How we are different?
- Info on the UDHR
- Info on what’s next? i.e. PPIA, Saudi Arabian action, Egypt action.
- Info on how people can help.

Members were urged to get a shirt embroidered by Nick!! Next meeting will be training for upcoming events. Next meeting is Tuesday, 17 May 2005 @ 7:30pm.
